U.N. to blame for Sudan??
Sudan has been on the radar of the public for what, several months now? The genocide going on there being committed by cooperating elements of the Sudan military and the Janjaweed, who if the U.S. was going after would be branded "terrorists with links to Al Qaeda" has continued unabated, despite claims that the Sudan government is working to stop it. Right... and I'm about to be propelled to the moon by passing a little bit of gas.
Tens of thousands have died in this massacre, reminiscent of the Rwanda genocide that was not stopped in the mid to late 90's. And we're worried about a few criminals here and there who purchase pistols and machine guns and shoot up schools and workplaces to kill a dozen at the most on very infrequent occassions.
I bring this up because I was watching FOX NEWS since I don't watch CNN, and MSNBC never has any live news on the weekends after it hits noon. What was on was "Heartland with John Kasich", and one part I payed attention to was when he started bashing the U.N. for not preventing the Sudan crisis like it should have and for not acting. Excuse me, but, first off, the U.N. has NO military, so it has no means of its own to undertake "peace keeping"(which seems like a poor name given how there is no peace to be had in the first place) they have to call on us or France or Germany or Great Britain or all of us to act.
Hm. Howabout this? What has the U.S. done to try and end the genocide, which is worse and more blatant of a murder spree than the murders Saddam committed over the years against his own people, and this is happening right under our noses as we watch an estimated one thousand human beings die each day in Sudan's Darfur region.
I find it hypocritical to blast the U.N. for having no ability to stem the crisis because it has to rely on the U.S. military for the bulk of its sanctioned actions.
Especially since Sudan is not going to be ended by just words alone, unless we keep trying to talk with them until they have gone "okay, we'll stop" because they have already exterminated all the people they had wanted to. And seeing as how the U.N. will continue to have to rely on the U.S., French, German, and British militaries for the majority of their actions because I can't see them drafting into being the creation of a military of their own and raise one that would have to be more powerful than all the other militaries (which I can't picture America going along with that and no longer be the superpower).
